TERMS & CONDITIONS

Effective from 7 August 2017 – Updated 9 July 2025

Jumpup Dance Academy is proud to be affiliated with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), and is a member of the Council for Dance Education and Training (CDET).

These terms apply to all classes for children aged 2 to 18 years. Enrolling your child means you accept these conditions. Please read them carefully.

A. CLASSES AND PAYMENTS
  1. A £20 non-refundable registration fee is required for each new student. An Enrolment Form must be submitted at the first class.
  2. Class times, days, venues, and prices may change at any time depending on availability or business needs. We’ll give notice where we reasonably can.
  3. If a class is cancelled at short notice, we will send an email and text to the contact details on our system as soon as possible. Please keep your contact information up to date and check before travelling. We are unable to phone families individually.
  4. We offer a three-week paid trial. After this, fees must be paid by BACS or cash. If paying cash, please place it in a sealed envelope marked with your child’s name and the amount. Receipts are available on request.
  5. If you no longer wish to continue, written notice (email is fine) must be given by the end of the current term. If no notice is received, a £50 No Notice Fee per class applies. Telling a teacher verbally doesn’t count as notice.
  6. If your child misses a class, the full fee is still due as their place is held. You may request to attend an alternative class during the same term, subject to availability. Missed classes cannot be carried over to a future term.
  7. Once the term has started, we cannot offer refunds if you decide to stop. If your child is absent due to serious or prolonged illness, please let us know as soon as possible. We may consider a partial refund or credit depending on the circumstances. Missed classes can be made up during the same term where suitable.
  8. We generally follow local school term dates, but may occasionally run classes during half term or on bank holidays. If we cancel a class (e.g. due to bad weather, teacher illness, or venue issues), we will try to reschedule, this might be during school holidays. If your child cannot attend the make-up session, no refund will be given. We also do not offer refunds for illness, injury, holidays, or school trips.
If the government requires school or venue closures (e.g. for COVID-19), we must comply. In such cases, refunds are not normally given, but online alternatives may be offered.
  9. Discounts: £10 off if a student attends 2 or more classes per week.
  10. Fees cover classes only. Extras like uniform, exam fees, and show costs are charged separately. These are optional, and full details are given in advance.
  11. RAD ballet exams are optional. Students are only entered when their teacher feels they are ready. Extra coaching lessons may be required and there will be an extra charge. Students may be entered for the RAD Solo Performance Award before taking the full exam.
  12. If your contact details change, please let us know in writing. Information is kept securely and only shared with exam boards (RAD or ISTD) when necessary.
    – Permissions and contact data are stored in our invoicing system (Membermeister) and deleted after your child leaves Jumpup
    – Photos used for promotion or on the website may continue to be used after your child has left. You can withdraw your consent for these at any time by writing to us.
  13. If a payment bounces or is rejected by the bank, you must pay the outstanding amount plus a £20 admin fee immediately.
  14. If payment is not received by the first week of term, a £10 late fee will be added. If fees remain unpaid after two weeks, this increases to £15, and your child may be suspended from classes until the balance is paid. To cancel your place, you must follow the process set out in point 5.
  15. Parents are not permitted to watch classes unless agreed in advance by the teacher. We usually offer an opportunity to watch at the end of the term or school year.
  16. Students are responsible for their belongings. All items are brought at your own risk. Mobile phones must be off or on silent during class.
  17. Students must ask permission before leaving the studio during class.
  18. Jumpup is committed to equal opportunities. We do not discriminate based on background, race, or religion.
  19. All staff are fully qualified and hold a current DBS check.
B. LEGAL AND SAFETY INFORMATION
  1. In the event of an emergency or fire, students will be escorted outside by their teacher using the nearest exit. Everyone in the building should know where these exits are. Parents must also evacuate without delay.
  2. First aid will be provided by a trained teacher if needed. In an emergency, we will contact a parent or guardian. If necessary, we may call an ambulance.
  3. Jumpup is responsible for students only during class times. We cannot supervise students before or after their class.
  4. If a child chooses to leave their class early, we will try to persuade them to stay and will immediately contact the parent. However, we cannot legally stop them from leaving. Parents remain responsible for their child’s actions outside the class.
  5. Please collect children from inside the venue, not outside, unless you have given written permission for them to leave on their own. This is especially important for students under age 16.
  6. While we take every care to ensure your child’s safety, dance involves physical movement and risk. We cannot accept responsibility for injuries unless caused by our negligence.
  7. Dance is physical and teachers may guide movements through gentle contact or assist with stretches. This is done professionally and respectfully.
  8. We have written policies on Child Protection, Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities, Customer Service, and Data Protection. These are available on request.
  9. If we see any signs of abuse or neglect, we are legally required to report it to Social Services and/or the Police.
  10. If a child is not collected and the venue is closing, a staff member will stay with them and attempt to reach the parent. If we cannot get through, we may need to call local authorities or the police. Staff are not allowed to drive children home.
  11. In an emergency, please contact Erna on 07946 581933. If unavailable, call Chris on 0208 959 6489.
C. UNIFORM AND APPEARANCE
  1. Casual clothing is fine for the first few lessons. Students should buy the correct uniform and a Jumpup T-shirt within a few weeks and wear it to all classes.
  2. Buying uniform from Jumpup is recommended to ensure correct style and fit. Some uniform items are compulsory. If an item is out of stock, it can be ordered. Payment is taken when ordering, but items can be exchanged if they don’t fit.
  3. Returns/exchanges can only be made if the item is unworn, undamaged, and still in its original packaging.
  4. Elastic must be sewn onto ballet shoes before use. If not done, the student may be asked not to wear the shoes in class.
  5. Hair must be neat and secured. From Grade 2 Ballet upwards, hair should be in a bun. For other classes, a secure ponytail is acceptable. Hair should not be left loose unless it’s very short.
  6. No jewellery or watches during class. A single pair of small stud earrings is fine for class, but not for exams or performances. Other jewellery must be removed or covered safely.
D. MISCELLANEOUS
  1. All personal details are kept confidential and only shared with authorised people, such as staff and exam boards.
  2. Students should arrive a few minutes early to prepare. Older students are expected to warm up before entering the studio.
  3. If your child has an injury, let us know before class. Fees are still due during injury periods. Injured students are encouraged to attend and observe or do light exercises where appropriate.
  4. Occasionally a teacher may need a short toilet break. During this time, students may be briefly unsupervised or a helper/parent may be asked to stay, especially for younger children.
  5. Please tell us if your child attends another dance or theatre school. This helps us avoid clashes or confusion in training or performance commitments.
  6. We may occasionally take photos or short videos in class for use on the website or social media. If you don’t want your child to appear, let us know in writing.
  7. Swearing and bad behaviour will not be tolerated. We expect good behaviour and mutual respect. Repeated disruption may lead to removal from the school, after a warning and parent consultation.
  8. If your child is wearing a cast or plaster, they must wait until it is removed unless you provide written confirmation from a doctor that they may safely return. A sling must be worn where necessary for safety.
  9. If your child is unwell or contagious (e.g. with conjunctivitis or head lice), they should not attend until fully recovered. Injured or recovering students are still encouraged to attend and watch.
  10. Students may be given simple home practice exercises, especially when preparing for exams. These are not usually compulsory.
  11. All choreography and class content is protected by intellectual copyright. If your child wishes to use routines outside of class (e.g. for a school show), please ask permission first.
  12. If you wish to make a formal complaint, please email: erna@jumpup.co.uk. We aim to acknowledge complaints within 14 working days and reply fully within 21 working days. If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you may withdraw your child following the normal cancellation policy.

By enrolling your child at Jumpup Dance Academy, you agree to these terms and conditions.
