What dance styles do you teach?
Jumpup teaches RAD Ballet and ISTD Tap, Modern, and Street Dance. We start at the age of 3 and go up until adult.
Is there parking?
There is a paid car park at the 02 centre. Which is free if you shop at Sainsbury’s There is on street parking with no restrictions for our Saturday classes at St Margaret’s and St mark’s Church. At UCL Academy parking is free after 6pm.
Is there a uniform?
The dancers either wear their ballet leotard & tights with a jumpup T shirt or black leggings and a jumpup T shirt for the ISTD classes.
Footwear is either bare feet or black jazz shoes
Do you do exams?
All our teachers are fully qualified by the ISTD and can enter children for examinations, which are optional. Children can still progress without taking the exam. We currently teach up to ISTD Intermediate which gives our dancers UCAS points and is the equivalent of an A level on the OFQUAL framework.
Modern Theatre Dance is a vibrant and energetic style, often seen on the stages of musical productions, known for its theatrical flair. Originating in America and spreading worldwide, this rhythmic dance form features traveling steps, high kicks, leaps, and turns, all requiring strength, flexibility, and precise technique. The dynamic movements and expressive quality make Modern Theatre Dance a favorite in both stage performances and dance training.
At Jumpup, students are prepared for ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) Modern Theatre Dance examinations, ranging from Primary through to Grade 6. Once the required level of skill and confidence is reached, students can be entered for these exams, though participation is optional.
The ISTD, founded in 1904, is one of the world’s oldest and most influential dance examination boards. It has consistently developed new dance styles and genres, growing to encompass 12 faculties, making it unmatched in the breadth of genres offered. Modern Theatre Dance is just one of the many styles supported by the ISTD’s rigorous training and examination system, ensuring high standards and versatility for dancers.
